I had seen this picture as a teenager and it gave me nightmares for a week. I guess I don't scare as easily now as then. But it is still a very disturbing picture in contrast to how handsome Emmit Till was in life. The Klan are ugly from the outside in. Keep showinf these pictures for future generations to see and learn from.

I have never seen anything so horrific before in my life. Many African-Americans have met such demise in the southern states. We were kidnapped, raped, and murdered and justic was never on our side.
I have an online petition, asking that the former slave states pay for the DNA testing in order for us to find our bloodline. They did this to Emmett and they have done this to many other "Emmett" in our community and they owe us at least that nuch.

It's not up to the state to do it. What happened was tragic, but that is no reason to say the state or anyone owes blacks anything. There are many people that have been discriminated against in the past and present. We need to all come together as one. Wanting money is not going to fix anything. @ Stephanie. When you say that black people that were not directly affected by the violence of racism in the south, should not be compensated, I have to disagree. Everything that affects my parents, neighbors and friends affects me, directly. If my parents live in fear and not afforded the same career opportunities as their white conterparts, it directly affects me. If my parents were denied employment because of the color of their skin and were not able to afford to send me to college, that directly affects me. I deserve every opportunity that the children of the white family's in south were afforded. Even though SOME white people today did not directly discriminate, they are still reaping the economic benefits of the one sided beginning their ancestors got during these times. Monetary compensation will help level the playing field.

I've had nightmares of this image for 3 days now & i still can't find enough strength within me to scroll to the top of this page & see Emmett's disfigured face.. I'm only 18 & i may not know everything but I understand Alot. My little brother is 14 & I can only imagine how traumatized his family must have been. Grown ass men couldn't tell right from wrong? I hope they've suffered every day of their damned lives after realizing how in the Wrong they were & knowing that they stole this poor baby's life. May him & his mother be at Peace. ☼

I first read about the death of Emmett Till while doing some studying in my History class. I can't begin to put into words the sadness I feel for this poor boy, and his family. I am white, however, my Grandfather was African American. It's been difficult to think about the things my Grandfather went through, as well as his family because of racial ignorance. I can't imagine something like this happening to any of them. My heart aches for Emmett Till. Truly horrifying.
